JOY & HOPE | Fiftieth Anniversary of Gaudium Et Spes

March 22–24, 2015 | University of Notre Dame

Hosted by the Center for Social Concerns, this conference had internationally known speakers celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Vatican II document, Gaudium et Spes, regarded as the most significant document of Catholic social teaching in the twentieth century.

The core purpose of the 50th Anniversary of Gaudium et Spes conference was to explore, in an academic setting, the thematic social justice issues that have been addressed by modern Catholic social thought, especially those within the pastoral constitution such as human dignity, political structures, economic development and internationalization. In order to garner original and creative insights from the speakers and their papers, presenters were asked to address the weaknesses or gaps that exist within the document and how the Church of today can move forward in the promotion of peace and justice in our pluralistic world.
