Kevin Hawkins

Commissioner, Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service

Kevin Hawkins has served with the Federal Mediation & Conciliation Service (FMCS) for over 17 years. Created in 1947, the FCMS is an independent agency that works to preserve and promote peace and cooperation between labor and management groups across the United States. During his time with the agency, Kevin has worked with groups in Nevada, Utah, and Indiana. In each location, Kevin has facilitated joint problem-solving and constructive responses to unavoidable moments of conflict. This approach aims to be both mutually beneficial, helping both employers and employees achieve their goals, and sustainable, building foundations of trust that can meet the demands of a rapidly changing workplace. In recent years, Kevin has assisted mediators in the field with technology resources designed to better serve FMCS clients worldwide, as well as developing new platforms to communicate and deliver the agency’s services. Prior to joining FMCS, Kevin worked in various human resource management capacities and served for two years as adjunct faculty in the Hospitality Department of the College of Southern Nevada. Kevin holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from the University of Notre Dame, where he also played on the university basketball team. Kevin and his wife also operate a nonprofit organization, The Hawkins Family Foundation, that seeks “to bring joy and hope to people in underserved neighborhoods by promoting literacy, art, and imagination through programming in local schools and community centers.”

As a Community Fellow, Kevin works with Dan Graff, Ph.D., on issues related to labor and what makes a just wage.
