Moreau College Initiative (MCI)
Founded in 2013, the Moreau College Initiative (MCI) is a joint academic collaboration of the University of Notre Dame and Holy Cross College and receives support from the Indiana Department of Correction and the Bard Prison Initiative. strives to ensure that incarcerated men in correctional facilities across Indiana have access to a world-class liberal arts education. Based at Westville Correctional Facility in northwestern Indiana, MCI draws men from across the state and allows them to attend college while incarcerated, leading to both A.A. and B.A. degrees from Holy Cross College.
Top faculty and administrators from the University of Notre Dame and Holy Cross College work to recreate a liberal arts college atmosphere with small seminar courses, extracurricular activities and clubs, and student support services. MCI is a member of Bard Prison Initiative’s Consortium for the Liberal Arts, a leading force for higher education in prison across the country. Through NDPEP, MCI is also a partner in the higher education in prison space with the Women’s College Partnership, our sister program serving students at Indiana Women’s Prison in Indianapolis.
