Vehicle Usage: Effective June 1, 2022 the center will no longer offer vehicles for reservation.
Geddes Hall Donors
Michael and Sheila Geddes, and Thomas and Mary Cabot donated $14 million to build Geddes Hall. Gifts from many other generous benefactors helped complete and equip many of the public spaces inside the building.
Geddes Hall History
Geddes Hall was the first completed structure designed for compliance with official “green building” certification standards. Opened in 2009, this is the home of the Center for Social Concerns, Institute for Church Life, and Notre Dame’s other prominent initiatives and programs serving the Church and embodying Catholic social tradition locally and globally.
The center’s ability to achieve its mission is facilitated immeasurably by the building in which the center is housed, the working space which it provides, and the variety of equipment at its disposal.
The center attempts to reflect a spirit of generosity and hospitality by sharing many of its material resources with its constituents, symbolic of the collaborative manner in which the Center aims to realize its mission. The coffee house and kitchen facilities in Geddes Hall are offered to local non-profit groups to prepare and serve fund-raising luncheons and dinners. The coffee house is also a place to relax, socialize, and discuss issues and programs.

Style
Many elements from the Arts and Crafts movement and Mission style are used throughout the building to convey simplicity, warmth, and welcome to students, faculty, staff, and members of the local community.
Theme
The Scripture passage “God is Love” (1 Jn. 4.16) inscribed over the main entryway provides a vision that binds all the programming of Geddes Hall together: the ministry of the Word, the ministry of the sacraments, and the ministry of service. Proclaiming the Word, the Church proclaims the love of God. Celebrating the sacraments, the Church is formed in the love of God. Serving the poor and others in need, the Church lives out the love of God.

Parking
The Notre Dame campus has been designed to be as pedestrian-friendly as possible, with public parking lots located on the periphery to keep vehicle traffic to a minimum. The map below shows the most convenient parking lot and walking route to the center for our many visitors.
The center is indicated by the maroon marker. Parking for the center is indicated by the blue marker in the Visitor Lot (A). A regular shuttle runs from the Visitor Lot (A) to the Hesburgh Library, and the center is just on the other side of the library. The shuttle runs continuously from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm, Monday through Friday. Buses arrive at each location approximately every ten minutes. More information can be found on the campus transportation site.
Most B parking lots (the lots closest to Geddes Hall) open at 4:00 pm. There is no shuttle service from B lots.
