Summer Fellowship Opportunities

Summer fellowships at the center connect the research you’re doing in the classroom with communities around the world in order to create a more just future for everyone.

Fellowship options

The center is offering two fellowships for rising juniors and seniors for summer 2023.

Common Good and the Pursuit of Purpose Fellowship

In this fellowship, you’ll work with center staff to design an immersive, justice-related summer experience in collaboration with a community partner in the U.S. or internationally.

This fellowship includes a spring semester course, where you will:

  • Explore the intersection of the common good and moral purpose through a number of philosophical and theological readings.
  • Integrate a robust vision for the common good in vocational, career, and other life pursuits.
  • Consider the cultivation of a particular kind of life and how personal and communal choices and commitments make for effective responses to the demands of justice.
The details
  • For rising juniors and seniors (current sophomores and juniors).
  • You’ll receive a stipend for summer travel and living expenses.
  • If selected, enroll in the required spring semester course (CSC 23913) on Thursdays 5:00–6:30 p.m. this spring. 
Sites

With guidance from center staff, you will select a community partner that matches your skills and interests, and collaborate to design and implement a summer project.

Center for Social Concerns Summer Fellowship

In this fellowship, you’ll work full time for 8 weeks with an organization committed to meeting the needs of marginalized communities in the U.S. and internationally. Partner organizations focus on a range of issues including healthcare, legal services, education, social entrepreneurship, immigration services, homelessness, and more.

  • For rising juniors and seniors (current sophomores and juniors).
  • You’ll receive a stipend for summer travel and living expenses.

Recommendation forms must be submitted no later than February 3, 2023; the link to the form can be found within the application.
